Dresser Rescue

I got this dresser from my favorite resale shop, A Furniture Fetish, which is in Lufkin, Texas. It’s actually a sturdy, nice dresser but, it had some normal life wear & tear to it so, I breathed some life back into it.

Before

cropped As you can see, I was working inside my unfinished cabin. Hey, a girls gotta make moola to finish said cabin and, baby, it’s cold outside!!! Yes, even in Texas!! I wanted to give it a heavily distressed look so, I painted the whole thing with Old Town Paints, Pure Black. After it dried (which this paints does VERY quickly) I reversed it. I painted over the drawers, with Cottage White, in sort of a dry brushing…, leaving some areas of black showing but, not much. I planned to distress it more in the end. After this all dried, I went to work distressing with 220 grit sand paper. Then, I used one of my favorite stamps from Hobby Lobby and, added birds to give it just a little something, something, for lack of a better word lol. I didn’t take photos of all that but, here is my end result. I am still toying with adding some dark wax or antique glaze in areas of the white. We’ll see….if I do, I’ll post the results.

I finished it all off with a protective coat of clear satin finish from Old Town Paints. Now,  I’m hoping to get my old/new (repurposed wood) broom/craft closet (big breath) finished, doors & all, by this weekend. Fingers crossed!!

Thank you for visiting ~ Dawn

I love the new, updated look! I’ve never seen another dresser finished in this way. It is truly unique — especially with the stamps. I found you through Furniture Flippin’.
